Description
Course Overview
This course is specifically designed for experienced operators working in heavy earthmoving, demolition, and quarrying environments who require formal NPORS certification or ticket renewal.
Delivered directly at your active site or at our Huddersfield training facility, this intensive 1-day course bridges advanced theoretical safety with strict practical assessment. Candidates will be rigorously tested on track tensioning procedures, managing machine stability on steep inclines, and executing safe face extractions. The training heavily emphasizes quick-hitch coupler safety and safe interaction with site traffic, ensuring operators are fully compliant with HSG47, GS6, and CDM regulations.
What You Will Learn
Upon successful completion, candidates will have proven their competency in:
Legislation & Risk Assessment: Understanding legal obligations under PUWER, LOLER, HSG47 (Underground Services), GS6 (Overhead power lines), and the operator's moral and environmental duties.
Pre-Operational Precision: Conducting advanced pre-start checks, including track tensioning limits, component serviceability, and checking ROPS/FOPS structural integrity.
Manoeuvring & Stability: Safely traveling across varying, uncompacted terrains and steep inclines, understanding how track adjustment and the center of gravity affect lateral stability.
Attachment Safety: Mastering the safe installation and removal of buckets using manual and hydraulic quick-hitch couplers, including mandatory visual inspection requirements.
Extraction & Loading: Efficiently setting up for loading duties, extracting materials from diverse stockpiles, and safely placing materials into hoppers and external transporting vehicles.
End of Shift: Navigating loading/unloading for machine transportation and executing proper shutdown and secure parking procedures.
Course Durations & Eligibility
Experienced Course Duration: 1 Day (Minimum 8 hours including assessment time).
Class Ratio (Experienced): Maximum 4 Learners : 1 Instructor : 1 Machine.
Note: Candidates must have prior documented experience operating a tracked loading shovel to attend this 1-day EWT course.
Testing & Certification
Candidates must pass an NPORS theoretical examination and a highly scrutinized practical test. The practical assessment proves their ability to safely maneuver the tracked machine on inclines, safely operate quick-hitch systems, and safely extract and load materials into a transporting vehicle.
Upon successful completion, candidates will receive an NPORS card and certificate endorsing them for Tracked Loading Shovel (C209).
