Loader compressors are highly versatile machines, heavily utilized in highway maintenance and street works. Operating both the loading and compressed air functions safely requires specific skillsets to prevent accidents and utility strikes. Our NPORS Loader Compressor (N206) course equips operators to confidently handle both aspects of the machine. It ensures full adherence to PUWER and HSG47 regulations, maximizing your site safety while minimizing operational downtime.

      Description

      Course Overview

This course is essential for utility contractors, highway maintenance teams, and groundworkers who utilize combined loading and pneumatic tools.

Delivered either at our purpose-built Huddersfield training facility or directly on your active site, this training combines essential health and safety theory with extensive hands-on practice. Candidates will learn the mechanics of the machine, including hydraulic systems, safety locking devices, and compressor types. The course heavily emphasizes safe digging procedures (HSG47), avoiding underground hazards, and ensuring tool-to-compressor compatibility so your teams work efficiently and safely in high-risk street environments.

      What You Will Learn

Upon successful completion, candidates will be fully competent in:

      • Legislation & Risk Assessment: Understanding legal obligations under PUWER, LOLER, HSG47 (Avoiding danger from underground services), GS6, and the Road Traffic Act.

      • Pre-Operational Inspections: Locating and inspecting major components, and conducting strict daily checks on brakes, transmissions, hoses, and ROPS/FOPS safety systems.

      • Site Preparation: Confirming cable detection scans have been performed, setting up safe exclusion zones, and identifying overhead or underground hazards.

      • Machine Operation: Navigating slopes and inclines safely, executing correct vehicle loading and spoil placement, and managing ground pressures.

      • Compressor Functions: Ensuring tool/compressor compatibility, setting correct air pressures, and understanding safe hose securing methods.

      • End of Shift: Safely loading/unloading for external transport and executing correct shutdown, isolation, and site security procedures.

      Course Durations & Eligibility

      • Novice Course Duration: 3 Days.

      • Class Ratio (Novice): Maximum 3 Learners : 1 Instructor : 1 Machine.

      • Refresher Tests: Maximum 3 tests per day.

      • Experienced Worker Tests (EWT): Maximum 6 tests per day.

      Testing & Certification

Candidates must pass an NPORS theoretical examination and a comprehensive practical test. The practical assessment proves their ability to safely maneuver the machine, utilize the bucket for loading, and safely operate the compressed air functions in a simulated active work area.

Upon successful completion, candidates will receive an NPORS card and certificate endorsing them for Loader Compressor (N206).
