Description
Course Overview
Operating a grader requires a deep understanding of soil mechanics and machine stability. This course is designed to transition learners into highly competent operators who can leverage the machine's unique capabilities for grading, side-casting, and high bank duties.
Candidates will receive intensive hands-on training at our centre, mastering the art of leveling ground and materials to precise finishes. The curriculum covers critical safety protocols, including pre-operational checks, safe travel over rough terrain, and the management of site-specific hazards like underground and overhead services to prevent accidents.
What You Will Learn
Upon successful completion, candidates will be competent in:
Machine Mechanics: Locating and identifying major components and explaining their specific functions.
Pre-Operational Safety: Conducting statutory daily inspections in accordance with manufacturer and legislative requirements.
Safe Manoeuvring: Traveling across rough, undulating ground and maneuvering safely in confined site areas.
Precision Grading: Configuring the machine and blade for grading, spreading, and leveling materials to produce even finishes.
Advanced Applications: Setting the grader for specialized tasks such as side-casting and high bank duties.
Site Management: Conducting work area safety checks and managing actions for underground and overhead hazards.
Transportation & Shutdown: Executing end-of-shift protocols and demonstrating understanding of machine loading/unloading procedures.
Course Durations & Eligibility
Novice Duration: 5 Days.
Refresher / Experienced Worker Tests (EWT): 1 Day.
Class Ratio: Maximum 3 Learners : 1 Instructor : 1 Machine.
Testing & Certification
Candidates must pass a theoretical multiple-choice exam (80% pass mark) and a rigorous practical assessment demonstrating competent grader operation.
Upon successful completion, candidates will receive an NPORS card and certificate endorsing them for Grader (N240)
