Description
Course Overview
Our 10-day novice program provides the extensive "seat time" required by NPORS to ensure complete competency. Candidates will progress from basic machine familiarisation to complex site tasks.
Operating a machine under 1 tonne presents unique challenges—specifically narrow track widths and short wheelbases that affect stability. Through 10 days of hands-on training, you will learn to master the independent boom swing for offset digging, navigate steep gradients, and safely manage the risks of working near buried services and overhead hazards.
What You Will Learn
Upon successful completion, candidates will be competent in:
Full Machine Control: Identifying all major components and mastering steering, driving, and braking controls.
Safety Inspections: Conducting statutory pre-operational checks in accordance with legislative requirements.
Advanced Manoeuvring: Configuring tracks for travel and work, and navigating varying terrain in confined areas.
Excavation Mastery: Digging trenches to specific depths (minimum 0.75m) and lengths (5m) with clean, vertical ends.
Material Loading: Safely loading material into transporting vehicles or containers while maintaining vehicle stability.
Site Reinstatement: Grading, levelling, and compacting ground using both the bucket and blade.
Attachment Security: Safely fitting and removing attachments using manual or semi-automatic quick hitch systems.
