Medium-risk confined space entries involve environments where hazards are present but can be controlled, yet the potential for a dangerous atmosphere remains. Our NPORS Confined Spaces - Medium Risk (N702b) course equips operatives with the essential skills to safely enter, work within, and traverse confined spaces using Emergency Escape Breathing Apparatus (EEBA). This training ensures your team can manage specified risks, conduct atmospheric monitoring, and execute safe exit procedures in accordance with

Description
Course Overview
This intensive 2-day course is designed for those who work in environments such as deep manholes, sewers, or large storage tanks where there is a reasonably foreseeable specified risk. Unlike low-risk entry, medium-risk scenarios require the use of specialized escape equipment and more complex communication protocols.
Candidates will learn to identify and manage hazardous atmospheres—including oxygen depletion, flammable gases, and toxic vapors. The training focuses on implementing robust Safe Systems of Work (SSOW), conducting detailed pre-entry checks, and mastering the "donning and doffing" of escape sets to ensure a safe withdrawal in an emergency.
What You Will Learn
Upon successful completion, candidates will be competent in:
Hazard Awareness: Defining confined spaces and understanding the "specified risks" associated with enclosed environments.
Atmospheric Testing: Using gas detection equipment to monitor oxygen levels and identify toxic or explosive gases.
Escape Equipment: Conducting pre-use inspections and demonstrating the correct use of Emergency Escape Breathing Apparatus (EEBA).
Access & Rescue Gear: Safe use of tripods, winches, and safety harnesses for fall arrest and rescue.
Legislation & Documentation: Implementing risk assessments, method statements, and formal Permit to Work systems.
Top-Person Duties: Understanding the critical role of the Top-Person in controlling access, maintaining communication, and managing emergencies.
Health & Hygiene: Recognizing symptoms of exposure and preventing diseases like Weil's disease through advanced hygiene.
Course Durations & Eligibility
Novice Duration: 2 Days.
Class Ratio: Maximum 6 Learners : 1 Instructor.
Refresher courses and Experienced Worker Tests (EWT) are also available.
Testing & Certification
Candidates must pass a written theoretical exam and a rigorous practical assessment. The practical test requires delegates to demonstrate safe setup, atmospheric sampling, and a successful entry/traverse while utilizing escape breathing apparatus and communication equipment.
Upon successful completion, candidates will receive an NPORS card/certificate endorsing them for Confined Spaces - Medium Risk (N702b).
