Crawler Crane

A crawler crane is a type of mobile crane that moves and operates on crawler tracks (also known as tracks or continuous tracks), similar to those on a tank or an excavator.
It combines heavy lifting capability with mobility on a job site, making it an indispensable piece of equipment for large-scale construction and infrastructure projects.
The defining feature is the undercarriage, which uses these large, powerful tracks instead of rubber tires.
This design provides exceptional stability and allows the crane to travel on soft or uneven ground without sinking.

Course Objectives for N103
Crawler Crane

➢ Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operator
➢ Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular machine to be used
➢ Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions
➢ Be able to locate and identify key controls and explain their functions
➢ Set up exclusion zone
➢ Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for crawler crane use
➢ Conduct all pre-operational and running checks in accordance with manufacturer’s and legislative requirements
➢ Prepare the crawler crane for use and operate machine safely and efficiently
➢ Environmental considerations
➢ Carry out all end of work and shut down procedures
