Mobile scaffold towers are the ultimate solution for rapid, temporary high-level access. However, because they are so easy to assemble, they are frequently erected incorrectly by untrained personnel. Missing outriggers, skipped guardrails, and the incredibly dangerous practice of moving a tower while someone is still on it are leading causes of fatal falls and site closures. The NPORS Mobile Scaffold Towers (N706) course ensures your operatives are fully compliant working-at-height professionals.

      Description

      Course Overview

This rapid, intensive 1-day training program is an absolute must for M&E contractors, commercial decorators, HVAC installers, and facilities management teams.

Delivered either at our Huddersfield training facility or directly in your active warehouse or site, this course bridges the gap between basic site safety and structural access compliance. Candidates will be thoroughly trained on following the manufacturer's instruction manual to the letter. The training heavily emphasizes identifying structural components, assessing ground conditions, properly fitting outriggers/stabilisers, and the strict safety protocols required to relocate a constructed tower.

      What You Will Learn

Upon successful completion, candidates will be fully competent in:

      • Legislation & Risk Assessment: Understanding legal obligations under PUWER, LOLER, the Work at Height Regulations, and specific industry dangers.

      • Component Identification: Locating and identifying major components of the mobile scaffolding (frames, braces, platforms, castors, and outriggers) and explaining their structural functions.

      • Pre-Use & Safety Checks: Conducting thorough pre-operational checks on all components to identify fatigue, damage, or missing locking pins in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.

      • Safe Erection & Dismantling: Mastering the safe erection and dismantling of the tower, ensuring proper sequencing to prevent unprotected falls during assembly.

      • Relocation & Environmental Hazards: Understanding the strict rules for moving a tower, including removing personnel and materials, checking overhead hazards, and avoiding uneven ground.

      • End of Shift: Carrying out end-of-work inspections, dismantling, and safely storing the mobile scaffold components to prevent damage.

      Course Durations & Eligibility

      • Novice / Refresher Course Duration: 1 Day (A rapid compliance block for new or returning operators).

      • Class Ratio (Novice): Maximum 6 Learners : 1 Instructor : 1 Mobile Scaffold Tower.

      • Experienced Worker Tests (EWT): A 1-day assessment is available for up to 8 experienced operators who require formal NPORS ticket renewal.

      Testing & Certification

Candidates must pass an NPORS theoretical examination and a strict practical assessment. The practical test requires a team of candidates to inspect the components, safely build the tower to its maximum free-standing height, safely relocate the assembled tower, and properly dismantle and store it.

Upon successful completion, candidates will receive an NPORS Operator Card and certificate endorsing them for Mobile Scaffold Towers (N706).
