Lorry Mounted Lift Trucks (widely known as Moffetts) are the ultimate tool for delivery fleet efficiency, allowing drivers to unload building materials, turf, and heavy pallets entirely unassisted at remote sites. However, operating a highly maneuverable lift truck on uncompacted ground carries a massive risk of longitudinal and lateral tip-overs. Our NPORS Lorry Mounted Lift Truck (N004) course ensures your drivers are fully compliant, highly skilled MHE operators

      Description

      Course Overview

This comprehensive training program is a mandatory requirement for hauliers, builders' merchants, and logistics companies whose drivers deliver to active construction sites, residential streets, and farms where no onsite unloading equipment is available.

Delivered either at our purpose-built 84-acre Huddersfield training facility or directly at your depot using your own fleet, this intensive course bridges the gap between commercial driving and heavy plant operation. Candidates will master the unique steering and hydraulic controls of the truck. The training heavily emphasizes safely maneuvering the truck laden and unladen , managing stability on inclines, and the critical procedure of mounting and dismounting the lift truck from the carrying transport vehicle.

      What You Will Learn

Upon successful completion, candidates will be fully competent in:

      •

Legislation & Risk Assessment: Understanding legal obligations under HASAWA 1974, PUWER, LOLER, and the specific L117 Rider Operated Lift Trucks Approved Code of Practice.

      •

Pre-Operational Precision: Conducting thorough daily checks on the mast, carriage, chains, hydraulic rams, and securing points.

      •

Manoeuvring & Stability: Safely traveling and maneuvering in open and confined areas , understanding how turning with a raised load or traveling across a gradient causes lateral instability.

      •

Lifting & Stacking: Using hydraulic controls smoothly to bulk stack and de-stack loads accurately at ground level, eye level, and high level.

      •

Vehicle Integration: Safely loading and unloading external transport , and executing the specific, high-risk procedures required to attach and detach the lift truck from the carrying vehicle securely.

      •

End of Shift: Safely parking the truck, lowering the forks, applying the parking brake, and completing all shutdown and fault reporting procedures.

      Course Durations & Eligibility

      •

Novice Course Duration: 5 Days (Allowing for intensive practice in confined maneuvering and host-vehicle attachment).

      •

        Class Ratio (Novice): Maximum 3 Learners : 1 Instructor : 1 Machine.

      •

Experienced Worker Tests (EWT): A 1-day assessment is available for a maximum of 4 experienced operators who require formal NPORS certification or ticket renewal.

      Testing & Certification

Candidates must pass an NPORS theoretical examination, which requires an 80% pass mark. They must also pass a strict practical assessment, which involves navigating a chicane forward and reverse , stacking at various heights , and successfully demonstrating the safe attachment and detachment of the truck to the host vehicle.

Upon successful completion, candidates will receive an NPORS Operator Card and certificate endorsing them for Lorry Mounted Lift Truck (N004).
