Articulated telescopic loaders combine tight manoeuvrability with extended reach. Operating them safely requires precision to prevent lateral tip-overs. Our NPORS Articulated Telescopic Loader (N209J8) course equips operators to safely lift, transfer, and stack heavy loads in confined spaces. It ensures strict compliance with LOLER, PUWER, and L117 guidelines, boosting site safety and workflow.

      Description

      Course Overview

This course is essential for operators working in agriculture, waste management, builder's merchants, and construction sites where space is tight but high-reach lifting is required.

Delivered either at our purpose-built Huddersfield training facility or directly on your active site, this training blends essential health and safety theory with rigorous practical application. Candidates will learn the unique mechanics of the machine, focusing heavily on articulating chassis dynamics, hydraulic systems, and safe load handling. The training emphasizes calculating load capacities, managing the center of gravity while articulating, and safely loading and unloading external transport vehicles.

      What You Will Learn

Upon successful completion, candidates will be fully competent in:

      • Legislation & Risk Assessment: Understanding legal obligations under PUWER, LOLER, the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, and the L117 Approved Code of Practice for rider-operated lift trucks.

      • Pre-Operational Inspections: Locating and inspecting major components, and conducting strict daily and running checks on articulating joints, forks, hydraulics, and ROPS/FOPS safety systems.

      • Machine Operation: Safely mounting and dismounting the machine, moving off safely, and understanding how an articulating chassis affects stability and ground pressure.

      • Lifting & Load Handling: Correctly configuring the machine to lift, transfer, and accurately place loads at varying heights and locations.

      • External Transport: Understanding the hazards of loading/unloading flatbeds and trailers safely using fork arms.

      • End of Shift: Properly storing the machine, lowering the telescopic boom, and executing correct shutdown and site security procedures.

      Course Durations & Eligibility

      • Novice Course Duration: 5 Days (Intensive training for beginners).

      • Class Ratio (Novice): Maximum 3 Learners : 1 Instructor : 1 Machine.

      • Refresher Tests: Maximum 3 tests per day.

      • Experienced Worker Tests (EWT): Maximum 4 tests per day.

      Testing & Certification

Candidates must pass an NPORS theoretical examination and a demanding practical test. The practical assessment evaluates their ability to safely manoeuvre the articulated chassis in confined spaces, accurately lift and place loads using the telescopic boom, and execute thorough pre-use inspections.

Upon successful completion, candidates will receive an NPORS card and certificate endorsing them for Articulated Telescopic Loader with Fork Arms (N209J8).
