When working at height, a harness and fall arrest system is an operative’s last line of defence. However, a poorly fitted or damaged harness can be just as dangerous as not wearing one at all. Our NPORS Harness and Fall Arrest (N723) course equips candidates with the vital knowledge to select, meticulously inspect, and correctly fit their safety harnesses to ensure total compliance and life-saving protection.

      Description

      Course Overview

Falls from height remain the leading cause of workplace fatalities in the UK construction and utilities sectors. This course is essential for anyone using mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs), working on scaffolding, or operating near unprotected edges and deep excavations.

Delivered at our state-of-the-art Huddersfield training facility (or directly on your site), this intensive half-day course blends essential health and safety legislation with practical, hands-on application. Candidates will learn how to interpret manufacturer handbooks, conduct rigorous pre-use checks, and understand the catastrophic risks of suspension trauma.

      What You Will Learn

Upon successful completion, candidates will be competent in:

      • Legislation & Responsibility: Understanding the dangers of working in the industry and personal legal responsibilities under the Work at Height Regulations.

      • Equipment Selection: Selecting the suitable type of harness, lanyard, and fall arrest block relative to the specific work being undertaken.

      • Component Identification: Locating and identifying major components of the fall arrest system and explaining their specific functions.

      • Inspection & Maintenance: Conducting rigorous pre-use safety checks in accordance with manufacturer and legislative requirements, plus end-of-work inspections.

      • Practical Fitting: Safely and correctly fitting, adjusting, and removing the safety harness.

      • Storage & Environment: Understanding environmental considerations and the correct storage procedures to prevent material degradation.

      Course Durations & Eligibility

      • Novice / Refresher Duration: 1/2 Day (Half Day).

      • Class Ratio: Maximum 10 Learners : 1 Instructor.

      • Experienced Worker Tests (EWT): N/A (Due to the short duration, all candidates complete the standard half-day syllabus).

      Testing & Certification

Candidates must pass a theoretical exam and a practical assessment demonstrating the correct inspection and fitting of the harness.

Upon successful completion, candidates will receive an NPORS card and certificate endorsing them for Harness and Fall Arrest (N723)
