Working in confined spaces—such as shallow manholes, large chambers, or pits—carries significant risks including oxygen depletion and hazardous gases. Our NPORS Confined Spaces - Low Risk (N702A) course provides operatives with the essential knowledge to safely enter, work within, and exit these environments where the risk is considered low and a clear, unobstructed exit is available.

Description
Course Overview
This one-day course is designed for those who work in confined spaces where there is an adequate natural or mechanical ventilation and a very low likelihood of an atmospheric hazard developing. While classified as "Low Risk," these areas still require strict compliance with the Confined Space Regulations.
Candidates will learn how to properly define a confined space, conduct vital gas detection tests, and implement a robust Safe System of Work (SSOW). The training ensures that all entrants and "Top-Person" supervisors understand their legal responsibilities, can identify potential health hazards such as Weil’s disease, and know exactly how to initiate an emergency plan if conditions change.
What You Will Learn
Upon successful completion, candidates will be competent in:
Defining Confined Spaces: Understanding the difference between an "enclosed area" and a "specified risk" environment.
Atmospheric Monitoring: Performing pre-entry checks using gas detection equipment to identify oxygen levels and toxic or flammable gases.
Risk Assessment & Permits: Producing detailed risk assessments and operating under a formal Permit to Work system.
Hygiene & Health: Identifying common diseases found in confined spaces and understanding advanced hygiene procedures.
Safety Equipment: Conducting pre-use inspections on safety harnesses and fall arrest equipment.
Manning & Communication: Establishing clear manning levels and maintain continuous verbal or visual communication between entrants and the Top-Person.
Course Durations & Eligibility
Novice Duration: 1 Day.
Class Ratio: Maximum 10 Learners : 1 Instructor.
Experienced Worker Tests (EWT) and Refresher courses are also available.
Testing & Certification
Candidates must pass a written theoretical assessment and a practical assessment demonstrating safe entry and exit procedures, the use of gas monitors, and the implementation of a safe system of work.
Upon successful completion, candidates will receive an NPORS card/certificate endorsing them for Confined Spaces - Low Risk (N702A)
