Concrete pumps are essential for delivering massive volumes of concrete to hard-to-reach pour zones. However, pumping heavy materials at extreme pressures presents severe risks, including pipe ruptures, violent "hose whip," and machine tip-overs. Our NPORS Concrete Pump (N211) course equips operators with the critical skills required to safely configure the pump, manage high-pressure delivery lines, and execute precise pours, while fully complying with PUWER regulations and site safety standards.

      Description

Operating a concrete pump requires constant vigilance and an in-depth understanding of hydraulic pressures, ground stability, and the behavior of curing concrete. A sudden blockage or an improperly deployed outrigger can lead to catastrophic accidents on site.

This comprehensive 5-day course is designed for both mobile (truck-mounted) and static (trailer-mounted) pump operators. Candidates will learn how to conduct rigorous daily inspections, safely deploy outriggers, and anchor delivery pipelines. Crucially, the training places a heavy focus on the highly hazardous procedures of safely identifying and clearing pipe blockages, as well as executing environmentally safe end-of-shift wash-out procedures.

      What You Will Learn

Upon successful completion, candidates will be competent in:

      • Machine Familiarisation & Setup: Locating major components, maneuvering the vehicle into position, and safely deploying outriggers to exact ground-bearing specifications.

      • Pipeline Management: Arranging, anchoring, and securing all pipes and delivery lines safely across the site.

      • Safe Pumping Operations: Confirming the mix is safe to pump, maintaining controlled delivery to the pour location, and effectively directing reversing concrete mixer trucks into the hopper.

      • Blockage Protocols: Understanding exactly how blockages occur and executing strict, safe procedures for depressurizing, un-blocking, and re-connecting high-pressure lines.

      • Communication & Banking: Establishing clear communication with site banksmen and concrete finishing gangs to ensure a safe, coordinated pour.

      • Cleaning & Shutdown: Carrying out complete end-of-use washout and cleaning procedures without causing environmental damage or leaving set concrete in the hopper.

      Course Durations & Eligibility

      • Novice Duration: 5 Days (Intensive training required for candidates with no prior concrete pumping experience).

      • Class Ratio: Maximum 3 Learners : 1 Instructor : 1 Machine (Ensuring maximum hands-on operational time).

      • Experienced Worker Tests (EWT) and Refresher courses are also available.

      Testing & Certification

Candidates must pass a theoretical multiple-choice exam (80% pass mark) covering health and safety legislation, followed by a rigorous practical assessment. The practical test requires candidates to demonstrate safe pre-use checks, accurately set up the pump and lines, successfully pump material to a specified location, and execute a safe washout procedure.

Upon successful completion, candidates will receive an NPORS card/certificate endorsing them for Concrete Pump (N211).
